Found this on a seasoned gameplace by a cool guy:
General RP'ing Rules

Thou shalt not play God
God characters suck. You know the type, the ones that can fly, are invincible, can throw fireballs around, are invincible, are amazing with a sword, are invincible, are a big shot, are invincible, loved by all the ladies, are invincible and all the kings bow at his feet. Oh... did I mention he's invincible?
Thou shalt not solve all the problems of the universe all by yourself.
Your character is not the be all and end all of the universe. If you need a simple fire spell to save the universe and you are playing a Barbarian from frozen wastes where you had never even HEARD of magic before you came south to kick some butt you aren’t going to suddenly develop fire spells... instead you will have to rely on the Wizard dude who you saved from some zombies and INSISTS on following you around no matter how annoying and weak he is. He does have a use after all ^_~
Thou shalt add details to your writing to keep it from being boring.
Put some life into your writing, you have a whole language there to use. If you need to use a dictionary or a Thesaurus to make it interesting.
E.g.
Instead of:
Jim-Bob walked up to the goblin and stabbed him
Try:
Screaming his war cries, Jim-Bob the Bold, fierce warrior of the West, charged the short, ugly goblin. His double handed broadsword, Excalibur, glistened in the sunlight as he swung the weapon with all his might, decapitating the green-skin.
Which one is more interesting?
Thou shalt be true to the character of your character.
If your character is a 70 year old human, who relies on magic to get him by, he isn’t suddenly going to leap at the 40 foot dragon armed with only a toothpick is he now? Think about what you would do in the situation if you were that character.
Thou shalt make sense.
Make it clear what your character is doing. If there are 15 people and a room and you say "Jim-Bob walked up to him" and the every person in the room is a guy, people aren’t going to have a clue what the heck you are on about. Try "Jim-Bob walked up to the large half Orc, with the double bladed axe, and the three missing fingers" from that description it’s fairly obvious who you are going to. If you still think extra clarification may be needed append your posts with an OOC (Out Of Character) comment, either by putting it in brackets or a different colour.
e.g.
((OOC - see what I mean?))
Or you could try this!
Thou shalt not kill other characters or decide what damage they get.
You cannot decide what happens to another character (unless its a non-player character) ever. If it’s a straight on fight they MAY dodge. If you are sneaking up behind them, leave your post hanging where you say you swing for their head with your club from behind. They might hear you or something. If its something that they wouldn’t dodge in a million years ever, still leave it hanging; GOOD role-players will pick it up and allow themselves to be kicked the crap out of or whatever. For various exceptions to the rule, see Thou shalt not decide thy neighbour’s actions, or his wife's actions, or his ox's actions.... below.
Thou shalt be patient for other characters to post.
Nothing is more irritating when someone is asking repeatedly when someone you are waiting on is going to post. Remember, PEOPLE HAVE LIVES! Their be-all and end-all isn’t (honestly) the Internet, more importantly isn’t this site. They may have work to do or something. Just be patient. If they haven’t posted in say a week, politely get in touch with them some how and say that you are waiting on them, be polite and don’t be too pushy.
THOU SHALT NOT WRITE IN ALL CAPS AS IT IS HIGHLY ANNOYING.
NEED I SAY MORE?
Tho shlt nat us fels spillin n gremmmer.
Learn to spell dammit! N dnt use txt spk as tht is hily annoyin 2! It makes for reading posts SO much easier than if you have to decipher wht sum1 hs sed cuz u cnt reed it. Remember, you don’t have a character limit of 150 characters or whatever here, make use of your freedom. If you are unsure of a word, the link for an online dictionary is above, use it, or use MS Word if you have it, or a similar word editor, or the spell checker that you can download from the World Site here: Spell Checker.
Thou shalt not decide thy neighbour’s actions, or his wife's actions, or his ox's actions....
Listen carefully... I will say this once, and only once. NEVER control another person’s character WITHOUT their prior permission. If it is an RP partner that you have had for a LONG time and you know each others character inside out then it isn’t as bad, but if you just go into a tavern and start controlling Tom, Fred and Harry's characters without them saying its ok, you're going to be in for an butt whupping... and sorry, you'd deserve it. It is THE Most annoying thing ever to have your characters actions dictated by someone you don’t really know. Especially when they are playing a Hobbit and you are a Human barbarian, and they write it so that you sound afraid of them. Sorry my friend, it ain't happening.

Think about the character that you'd like to play, including as much detail and as much referencing as you can.
Suggested readings for each site:
History
Map
Places
Races & Tribes
Measurements
Religion
These are suggested readings only. This is the 'basic' information that each RP'ger should know before beginning to play.
Read through a couple of existing characters to get a feel for what is required. Once you've gotten a general idea write your own by creating a new topic.
Include a visual description, personality, history, strengths and weaknesses. When creating your character, keep in mind your age VS. experience. You can not be a 18 year old human expert with a sword and magical also. This is also known as having a God Character, where your character has no weaknesses.
When you've written your description, it will then be read through by other people on the board. Suggestions and comments will be made on how to help improve your character.
My name is Ormelor Avaesthancis, and I have taken the task upon me of trying to give all who are interested an introduction to role-playing on the Klintorth RP boards. When you have read through all of this, you will have a, as I hope, decent idea of what role-playing is, and how you do it.
These guidelines (for that is all they are, by no means are they rules or laws) are the same ones that I have lived by for as long as I have been RP'ing in something you might call a liberal RP system. I'll explain that later on. I have been writing like that, weaving stories together with others, for about 18 months. Not once has anyone ever taken offence at any of my posts.
However, I don’t have all answers, and I don’t even pretend to know everything. These guidelines are mainly my personal opinions, but they are also what I know other proficient role-players to value in an RP. I just took the liberty of putting it all together in a format that I hope is easy to understand and amusing enough to keep your interest to the end of it.
Disclaimer: As said, I don’t force these guidelines upon anyone, and you may disagree with me on certain aspects of it. I welcome any comments, be it positive or negative. And if you can prove that something I have written doesn’t make sense at all, I won’t hesitate to change it. The guidelines are not complete, I don’t think they ever will be. But they are in my humble opinion rather thorough and they do cover the most important basics, at least those that I view as the most important basics.
I hope you enjoy them, and that they may encourage you to try out this different form of story-writing.
